What does Jonah 2:9 mean?

'Salvation is of the LORD' is three words in Hebrew and is the theological centre of the book. Jonah says it before anything has changed, which is what gives it weight; and the irony is that the man who states it will spend chapter 4 furious that God applied it to Nineveh. Scripture lets him be right and wrong in the same book without resolving the tension.

What is the context of Jonah 2:9?

Jonah has fled a commission, been thrown overboard by sailors who tried not to, and swallowed. His prayer from inside runs the length of chapter 2 and ends here. The fish vomits him out in the next verse — the deliverance follows the sentence, not the other way round.
