What does Revelation 21:5 mean?

'All things new' rather than all new things — the promise is renewal of what exists, not replacement of it. The tense is present: making, in progress. And the order of the sentence is worth noticing: the declaration comes first, then the command to record it, then the assurance that the words are trustworthy, as though John needed telling because the claim is so large.

What is the context of Revelation 21:5?

The new heaven and new earth have appeared and the city has come down. God has just said he will dwell with people and wipe away tears. This is the summary statement, followed by an instruction to write it down.
