What does Luke 10:41-42 mean?
The doubled name is the tone of the whole passage: it is how Scripture marks affection, not exasperation. 'Careful and troubled' translates two words for being pulled apart and agitated — the diagnosis is her state, not her cooking. And the reply defends Mary's right to be there rather than criticising Martha's work; the good part is not idleness but the seat that Martha assumed was closed to them both.
What is the context of Luke 10:41-42?
Martha has welcomed Jesus into her house — Luke says it was hers — and is doing the work that welcome requires. Her sister is sitting with the guests, which was not where a woman was expected to be. Martha asks Jesus to send her back to the kitchen.
How do I pray Luke 10:41-42?
Pray it when serving has turned into resentment, which is the actual symptom in the story. Ask what the one thing is today, and notice that Jesus does not specify — he leaves it as a question. Then check whether you are asking him to send someone else back to work, because that is what Martha's request was.
